Autognorics

What is the meaning of Autognorics?

Autognorics emerges as a field that transcends artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. It delves into the creation of engineered life forms (ELFs), also known as "gnorics."  It deals with embedded inscriptions, intuitive objects, aneural(brainless) memory systems, and generated emergence.

The term "autognorics" originates from Greek, with "auto" meaning "self" and "gnorics" signifying "knowledge." This translates to "self-knowing living machines." The field encompasses several key ideas:

1. Intuitive Objects: Everything is imbued with inherent set of instructions called inscription that guide its behaviors and intelligence.

2. Intuitive Aneural Network Systems: Autognorics explores memory mechanisms that function differently from the human brain, potentially leading to novel forms of information processing.

3. Embedded Inscriptions: The concept suggests that instructions are intrinsically woven into the structure of these intuitive objects without relying on traditional programming.

Autognorics finds its roots in the Biotronics Project developed by Joey Lawsin in 1988. This project aimed to develop "intuitive machines" (IMs) that resemble and behave like living organisms. These IMs potentially perform actions like walking, seeing, and even possessing rudimentary forms of thought and sensation.

The field is further divided into specialized areas:

  • Homotronics: focuses on the physical body of the machine.
  • Neurotronics: explores alternative memory systems that don't rely on conventional neural networks.
  • Dimetrix: delves into the concept of embedded instruction through designs.
  • Codexation: investigates the integration of instructions and materials
  • Exyzforms: studies the properties and behaviors of intuitive sensors.

Autognorics proposes a range of ELFs, including:

  • Homodruinos: Intuitive machines with a microcontroller-based aneural "brain."
  • Biotronics: Electronic machines equipped with organic wise sensors.
  • Biognorics: The pinnacle of autognorics, envisioned as living machines exhibiting consciousness, awareness, and the ability to learn and adapt. They are in-vitro life-forms that are alive, living, and with life.

According to Lawsin, Life is an evolutionary process that is governed by seven stages. It evolves from being alive, living, and with life. He classified the seven sequences based on the state of being of the individual. The Seven Orders of Life, known as the Laws of Inscriptions, are as follows:

  1. Alive = consumes energy without requiring neural reasoning.
  2. Aware = sends and receives signals using sensors without the need for neural reasoning.
  3. Conscious = match things with things without the need for neural reasoning.
  4. Intuitive = makes choices based on internal mechanisms.
  5. Inlearn = acquires and utilizes information through non-neural (anueral) memory.
  6. Living = controls decisions, actions, and experiences symbiotic relationships.
  7. Life = emerges as self.

1. Alive: Defined by the ability of an object to self-consume energy from an external source. An infant drawing energy from its mother's milk and a machine acquiring energy from a power source are considered "alive" under this definition. Aliveness emerges when energy is self-consumed.

2. Awareness: Requires both aliveness and the presence of intuitive sensors. A newborn baby exemplifies this stage, possessing sensors like eyes and ears that gather information without conscious processing. Similarly, a machine equipped with intuitive sensors can be considered aware. Awareness emerges when sensors are present.

3. Consciousness: Introduces the concept of codification or codexation, where an object can associate an object with another object unknowingly. A baby stacking blocks without conscious thought or a machine that can identify and categorize objects would be considered conscious in this framework. Consciousness emerges when aliveness, awareness, and codexation are present..

4. Intuitiveness: Involves aliveness, awareness, consciousness, and the ability to choose. This stage signifies a rudimentary form of logic, where the object can select between options based on internal mechanisms. Lawsin refers to this as the "Theory of the Second Option" or the "This or That Rule."

Inlearn is defined contingent on five benchmarks: aliveness, awareness, consciousness, intuitiveness, and inlearness. An object is inlearn when it self-consumes energy, driven by sensors, codifies things, selects options, and self-informs using aneural intuitive memory made of aneurons known as gnos. The self-ability to acquire and use information is the key mark that identifies when an object is inlearned. Inlearness emerges when aliveness, awareness, codexation, logic, and gnos are present.

5. Inlearning: Requires all previous stages and the ability to self-inform using aneural intuitive  memory. This memory system, called gnos, allows the object to learn and adapt without relying on a traditional brain. Inlearness is contingent on five benchmarks: aliveness, awareness, codexation, logic, and gnos.

6. Living: Characterized by aliveness, awareness, consciousness, intuitiveness, inlearning, and the capacity for symbiosis. This stage signifies a more complex level of interaction with the environment, including the ability to form relationships. Living emerges when aliveness, awareness, codexation, logic, information, and symbiosis, the basic signatures of a lifeform, are present.

7. Life: The most advanced stage, encompassing all previous characteristics and the emergence of selfness. This represents a distinct and independent existence of being, possessing life.

Understanding the New Criteria based on being alive, living, and with life:

When one can no longer codify, rationalize, and live by itself, that being, although alive, is no longer living and with life. When one can no longer consume or use energy, that being is no longer alive.
